A new podcast! The subject? Nothing less than the snubbing of films!

Dear The Last Thing I Sawfolk,

Every awards season brings with it talk of snubs—actors, directors, entire movies that are callously, wantonly snubbed in front of God and the world and innocent pets and pigeons. The good people at the Museum of the Moving Image have decided to do something about this madness with the series “Snubbed: Great Movies, No Nominations.”

I spoke with the programmers about snubbage and its discontents, with everyone bringing along a couple of examples of snubbed films. Which films were de-snubbed through our episode? You’ll have to listen and find out! Tee-hee-hee.

I discussed some of these movies—and the different ways and reasons movies get overlooked—with the series co-programmers: Eric Hynes, curator of film at MOMI; Michael Koresky, co-editor of Reverse Shot; and Edo Choi, associate curator of film at MOMI.

Welcome to The Last Thing I Saw! I’m your host, Nicolas Rapold.

Besides hosting the podcast, I’m a writer and an editor. My features, interviews, festival dispatches, and reviews are published in The New York Times, Sight & Sound, Artforum, Filmmaker, and W Magazine (and have appeared in dearly departed publications such as The Village Voice, Stop Smiling, The New York Sun, and The L Magazine). Why, I’ve even programmed quite a bit!

I worked as editor-in-chief of Film Comment, where I was for 15 years. There I assigned and edited both web and print editorial, hosted The Film Comment Podcast and Talks and screenings, curated Film Comment Selects, learned from brilliant writers, and wrote a lot, including interviews with Spike Lee, Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche, Pedro Costa, and Frederick Wiseman. Film Comment was subsequently awarded the Film Heritage Award by the National Society of Film Critics (an honor historically awarded to the Museum of Modern Art and other institutions).
